A discus would not work. Try a dwarf gourami.

  • Kidus Yared:

No, because they are..well, discs, they would require more height room. And you would need a group of at least 5.Just a personal reason i wouldnt get any, they are VERY expensive and delacate.
I would get gouramis for a show tank, bala or rainbow sharks (whichever one is smaller) for freaking out kids > :D, and for a nice, serene planted tank, i would get CRS, corys, and a large school of neon tetras(i tell my 5 year old cousins that they are neon sharks anyway XD)
    Sorry if i was inaccurate…really

    nuh uh try angel fishie

  • Josh Myler:

yes if your tank is cycled! i think an angle fish would be better though!

  • Barbara Clark:

The tank would be big enough for one discus, but discus are community fish and require to live in groups of at least three or they will get stressed and get sick. I would not recommend getting just one. Also, if you are a beginner, or even a moderately skilled aquarist, discus are going to be very difficult. They are VERY hard to keep alive, they require an odd PH balance and temperature, a very careful diet, and any minute changes in temperature, PH levels, or nitrate levels will kill them instantly. I would suggest getting 3 angel fish for your 29 gallon. They are very pretty and easy to care for and only require a heater in their tank. That’s my advice and I hope it works out!

In theory yes but Discus require to be kept in groups of at least 3/4 and there’s no way you can do that in a 29 gallon.

I would recommend a pair of cichlids. Either kribs or aipistos or angelfish.
