Frage von m_ : Discus fish not eating after 5 days?
I bought a couple of discus fish five days ago. they don’t eat, just nibble at the ground and leaves. My dkh is 5.5, dgh 8, ph 7.2.
Other fish in the aquarium are 2 buenos aires tetras, 4 mollies, 8 botias, 4 corydoras, 6 otocinclus, about 30 black neon tetras and about the same number of shrimps.

Frage von amit j : what type of aquarium environment should i create for breeding discus fish?

Answer by Steven S
discus like well planted tanks, amazon sword is good as they use this to lay eggs on, adding mopani wood to the water is also good as it gives the water a tannin stain which is good for the fish also, this makes the fishes colours intensify with the darker water. several discus should be put in the tank as they are a shoaling fish unless you plan to breed in which case you should have a pair.
try and make the tank as close to a natural amazonian river environment as possible.

Frage von : discus fish…………..?
can i lay my discus horizontal when changing thier water or do they need to be vertical???? i think laying them flat would be much easier but they tend to flap a lot…horizontal or vertical?????

Answer by TheRav1n
It sounds like you are changing too much water at one time. You are freaking the fish out and causing stress not only from the cleaning and “laying them flat” but also from the sudden change in water parameters. Do more frequent water changes of a lesser degree (not more than 50% at a time).
“Laying them flat” is cruel and unhealthy to the fish, and in most circles would be considered fish abuse! They are more likely to damage their slime coat, tear fins, cause gill damage, etc, when the “flap a lot” because they do not have enough water.

Frage von tuckerfoolio : discus fish ?
will a discus do well in a 36 gallon tank with plecos and otos?
all of my plecos are dwarfs and get no longer than 5 inches
Beste Antwort:
Answer by dreammaker2623
It depends on how large and what kind of plecos that you have. If you have small plecos (the ones that do not get too large and they can take the higher temp then it should be OK but if you have regular plecos , they will outgrow the tank and it will not be good enough water conditions for the discus. Otto cats should be OK as long as the discus are not large and the ottos very small.

Frage von manoj d : can i use backside river rock for my Discus fish aquarium?
i have picked up some backside river stones for my turtle tank..i have some rocks left with me…is it ok to keep it in my discus fish aquarium…..please suggest…..

yes yes. the best way toclean them is to soak them in extremely hot water. then mix cold water, ice, and vinegar and put rocks in. let soak overnight. in the morning rinse thoroughly with warm water.
also use a water conditioner everytime you add new things to the tank. it prevents bad water levels(ammonia, nitrite, nitrate)

Frage von Zooy : What live plants, with Discus fish?
I’m going to be getting a 75 or 90 gallon used tank. But I’m not sure what live plants would be ok with Discus, with the high temperature and low pH. I’d like some plants that don’t have to have CO2, but I’d like to find out what plants are out their. please let me know which ones need CO2 and which ones don’t. Thanks!

all plants need CO2. if you want one that doesn’t need CO2 then get plastic plants

Frage von : Can I keep Blue Zebra fish with Discus?
Yesterday I bought two Blue Zebra Fish(very small in size) just for testing purpose, if they survive i’ll buy more. But it seems like they are very aggressive and can be harmful to my Discus fish. Please suggest
I have a 35 Gallon Tank with:
2 German Blue Ram
1 Betta Fish
1 Black Ghost Knife
2 White Corydorous
1 Discus fish
and now 2 Blue Zebra
also please suggest me which other fishes I can keep with Discus?

In a 35 gallon tank – nothing – and you are already overstocked.
The mix is incompatible too.
The tank would be ok without Discus & the black ghost knife so these need upgrading asap -75 gallons would do as an interim tank -180 gallons would be better.
Corydoras need to be in groups and adding three more would be good. The Betta may be ok but the zebras could nip his fins, they are often nippier in a suboptimal group than when in a larger bunch.
