They grow the size of a dinner plate. Two would be the max for a 55 gallon tank, and they would have to be a mated pair. They want a lot warmer water than the other fish, and are very peaceful. They would not mix well with most american cichlids. Small fish and american cichlids do not usually mix either…what cichlid????
Your plan is greatly overstocking your tank.
3 discus would be a disaster. Stocking recommendations is 1, a mated pair, or 5+, any variation leads to territorial and nippy discus.

Frage von cougar1331puma : Tank Set-Up Question3?
Ok, I am going to ask 4 questions with four different set ups altogether.
This is the third.
It is a South American Cichlid Tank.
In optimal conditions, which favor all fish equally, would it work out with:
1 Male Dwarf Cockatoo Cichlid, Apistogramma cacatuoides
3 Female Dwarf Cockatoo Cichlids,
Apistogramma cacatuoides
1 Male Keyhole Cichlid, Cleithracara maronii
2 Female Keyhole Cichlids, Cleithracara maronii
4 Angelfish, Pterophyllum scalare
2 (Breeding Pair) of Discus Cichlids, Symphysodon aequifasciatus
55 gallon
This situation is hypothetical, far from being instilled.
As you can see I want many of these to breed, and I will set up optimal conditions for each.
Also, do not reprimand me as this is JUST HYPOTHETICAL!
Thanks in advanced to everyone!

This is definitely too many fish for a 55 gal aquarium. One breeding pair of Discus would be possible but cramped in a 55. 4 Angels would be too much for a 55 as they would come into conflict with each other when two pair off to breed. The other cichlids you name I haven’t had any experience with personally.
