i have picked up some backside river stones for my turtle tank..i have some rocks left with me…is it ok to keep it in my discus fish aquarium…..please suggest…..

Answer by Chandler
yes yes. the best way toclean them is to soak them in extremely hot water. then mix cold water, ice, and vinegar and put rocks in. let soak overnight. in the morning rinse thoroughly with warm water.
also use a water conditioner everytime you add new things to the tank. it prevents bad water levels(ammonia, nitrite, nitrate)

Frage von Zooy : What live plants, with Discus fish ?
I’m going to be getting a 75 or 90 gallon used tank. But I’m not sure what live plants would be ok with Discus, with the high temperature and low pH. I’d like some plants that don’t have to have CO2, but I’d like to find out what plants are out their. please let me know which ones need CO2 and which ones don’t. Thanks!

Frage von : Can I keep Blue Zebra fish with Discus?
Yesterday I bought two Blue Zebra Fish(very small in size) just for testing purpose, if they survive i’ll buy more. But it seems like they are very aggressive and can be harmful to my Discus fish . Please suggest

I have a 35 Gallon Tank with:
2 German Blue Ram
1 Betta Fish
1 Black Ghost Knife
2 White Corydorous
1 Discus fish
and now 2 Blue Zebra

also please suggest me which other fishes I can keep with Discus?

Beste Antwort:

Answer by sue
In a 35 gallon tank – nothing – and you are already overstocked.

The mix is incompatible too.
The tank would be ok without Discus & the black ghost knife so these need upgrading asap -75 gallons would do as an interim tank -180 gallons would be better.
Corydoras need to be in groups and adding three more would be good. The Betta may be ok but the zebras could nip his fins, they are often nippier in a suboptimal group than when in a larger bunch.

Frage von : Discus display fish tank with gravel or no gravel ?
I was wondering if i should have gravel in my 55 gallon Discus fish tank. I have try no gravel before but my water gets cloudy and when I have gravel the water stay nice and clean. Also how many Discus should I have in a 55 gallon ?

And does any one know where I can buy a nice piece of driftwood for that tank?

Thanks :)

Beste Antwort:

Answer by Andrew
Places like where I live have stores special for aquariums I go to superpets to get rocks, driftwood, and tanks they also have discus (119$ ) what an expensive fish by the way. As for the gravel or no gravel if you go the no gravel route to keep the water quality or clarity good and clear I would suggest a good powerful filter like a 75 on a 55 and a powerhead on the bottom to sweep any waste on the bottom towards the filter but I don’t know anything on discus so I don’t know if they like water current

Frage von ryan s : one of my discus fish is not eating and is turning black what could be wrong? should i treat it in a separate ?
tank? I have a 90gal with 8 discus all the other ones are fine.

Beste Antwort:

Answer by fishfrenzy
well if its not eating at all, then it could be an internal parasite and should be treated in a separate tank. But if it eats occasionally, then it could mean that he’s being bullied by the other discus, which was what happened in my case. But he eventually came around

Frage von Peace : Can someone give me any advice on Basic Discus Fish Care?
I’m planning on getting some.

Beste Antwort:

Answer by Ghapy
Well, the best advice I can give you is to buy a book on them and read it cover to cover before getting them. Basics:

At least a 50 gallon for a pair or a 100 gallon for a group

A pair is a breeding pair, not just two random fish

Preferably kept in a nicely planted tank

Best kept with calm, low-waste tankmates, but better kept in a species tank when first starting out with them

Do best in water heated to about 80-84 degrees and a ph of neutral or less

Absolutely must have clean, clean water. Require understocked tanks (no inch per gallon nonsense with these guys) and well maintained tanks. These fish are known for being delicate. They are actually rather tolerant of things like ph, but are very intolerant of dirty water.

Not good for first fish, these are much more suitable to experienced keepers.
