Discus are the touchiest of the group. I would first get your tank set up for discus. Low ph (about 5.8 – 6.2) is best. Use discus buffer. Get some black water extract from the pet store and follow the directions. You will need to mimic the flooded zones of the amazon river. Lots of live plants and hiding places. Fish that live well with discus are cardinal tetra and possibly angels. Others are risky. Frequent partial water changes. Good lights for the plants. Good Luck :)

Frage von discus fan : Are some types of discus fish more aggressive than others?
My neon blue (aka cobalt blue) discus is very bold and friendly with me, but my attempts to introduce him to other discus have been unsuccessful. He is really quite a bully. I have to keep him by himself with just catfish in a 46 gallon tank. I’m just wondering if certain strains of discus are more aggressive than others, and if this one will ever be able to live in my bigger tank with the other discus.

I dont know about different strains, but different fish can certainly have different temperments.

Introducing adult cichlids to tankmates can be tricky, and it doesn’t allways work.

Frage von originalsaffron2000 : hi need some advice about keeping discus fish?
hi i have a 350 litre corner aquarium and i am planning to keep discus fish, just wanted to know i plan to kep neon tetras too. what do i introduce first? what should the water cond be like?
how long to cycle the atnk before adding the discus?
if i just get 5 discus and i have this 77 gllon tank will i be able to get away with just 25% fortnightly water changes.

Simply add the tetras first. These fish are cheap and make great fish for cycling a tank. Keep the tetras in your tank for 4-6 weeks until your Nitrite and Ammonia are reduced to 0.

Next add the discus, but try to adjust your tank levels to what the Discus prefer: 85degrees, 7.5ph

Frage von FishMan9809 : What are some pretty alternatives to discus fish ?
I want to buy fish that look pretty and are an alternative to discus in a 40 gallon tall tank. Discus require too much maintenance so I would like a different fish.

Please help me out
;)
